What is a dart league?
A dart league is a collection of teams that are organized to compete against each other at comparable skill levels.
What is a team and how are they organized?
A team has two or four players who play once weekly in an organized league, they are organized by one person designated as the captain who signs the rest of the team players.
When are league seasons, and what nights do leagues play?
There are three league seasons which are typically twelve or fourteen weeks based on the number of teams in each division:
Fall: 1st week of September - December 15th
Winter: 1st week of January - April 15th
Spring: 1st week of May - August 15th
Organized leagues are played five nights weekly on Sundays through Thursdays.
Traveling leagues:
There are set nights of play to make it easier to schedule with other locations in the immediate area.
In-house leagues: Any type of dart game can be played on any night.
What types of dart games do leagues play?
The most popular dart games today are Cricket and 301.
Theisen Dart Leagues offer:
2 Person: Cricket - Open (male,female/male,male/female,female), Womens (female,female), and Mixed (male,female)
4 Person: Cricket - Open (male,female/male,male/female,female), Womens (female,female), and Mixed (male,female)
301 - Open (male,female/male,male/female,female), Womens (female,female), and Mixed (male,female)
How do players determine what to play?
The player can choose between Cricket or 301 and if they wish to be in Open, Womens or Mixed competition?
How is the skill level of a player determined?
Teams are bracketed into different skill levels based on known ability.
Players can base ability by previous league play or by stating their skill. Bracketing is in four classifications: A, B, C, D ('A' being the most skilled and 'D' being the beginner)
What is Cricket?
Cricket uses seven numbers on the electronic dart board (20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 and Bullseye). Object: Player must get three marks of each number before opponent. If a player marks more than three of each number before opponent hits three of each number a player will score the points of that number. To win, a player must hit all seven numbers three times and be ahead in points. (if points are scored)
What is 301?
Each player starts with 301 points and races backwards to zero. The player who reaches zero first wins the game but must have an exact countdown of 301 points. Scores will remain frozen until the exact score is achieved to win.
What does it cost and is it paid back?
Each player pays weekly dues of $3.00 towards the player's prize fund and puts quarters in the dart machine for the games played:
2 Person Cricket - $3.00 in quarters for each match
4 Person Cricket - $1.50 in quarters for each match
301 - $1.50 in quarters for each match
The players pay $3.00 weekly towards the player's prize fund until the end of the season (usually 12 weeks). The prize money is paid on the basis of the number of wins for each team.
The player's receive 75% back in cash prizes. The remaining 25% is applied towards a banquet and entry for play at Luck of the Draw at the end of the season. All players who have played a minimum of three weeks of the current season are eligible for the banquet. All players who have played six weeks of the current season qualify to play Luck of the Draw.
What is sanctioning?
There are three sources of sanctioning:
1. State sanctioning allows players to participate in organized state competition. There are four tournaments yearly. Each player receives a bimonthly newsletter with information from around the state.
State sanctioning annual fee: $5.00 each player (required)
2. N.D.A. (National Dart Association) allows players to participate in organized national tournaments. Each player receives a bimonthly issue of "Throw Lines" magazine.
N.D.A. sanctioning annual fee: $6.00 each player (optional)
3. W.A.M.O. (Wisconsin State Associaton) allows players to participate in the Wisconsin State Dart Tournament (largest dart tournament in the country)
W.A.M.O. sanctioning annual fee: $5.00 each player (optional)
What is the All League Party?
At the end of the season (usually 12 weeks) there is an All League Party open to all Theisen Dart League teams. All divisions compete at this party to determine the city champion for each classification (A,B,C, or D) followed by a banquet and Luck of the Draw tournament.
Do any competitions follow the All League Party?
Depending on the season, teams are eligible for either state or national competition. State tournaments are held in November, January, and April. National tournaments are held in October and May. This competition is open to sanctioned players with the minimum number of required weeks (8) or play.
