CHARLOTTE TO WELCOME MASTERS FINALISTS

World Cup Dates Changed; East-West Deadlines Approach

Anaheim, Calif. Though the Winmau World Masters 2001 is still eight months away, 46 finalists will converge on Charlotte, N.C. the first weekend in April to vie for a slot on the ADO Masters team and compete for cash prizes in the Charlotte Open to follow. Thirty men and 16 women will slug it out April 6, with four men and two women advancing to the Masters team that will travel to London in December. And, should any Masters team members earn a slot through other qualifying events, the alternates determined at the National Finals will be eligible to compete in London as well.

World Cup Bumped into September; Six Americans World-Ranked

A change of dates was recently announced for World Cup XIII, to be hosted by Malaysia. The new dates are Sept. 26-30. The unprecedented late move was created by a snafu at the venue, which double-booked the original dates. The new dates conflict with the ADOís U.S. Team finals which will determine the team of two men and two women who will next year travel to the Cayman Islands to compete in the first Americas Cup, a replacement event for the Pacific Cup, which was abandoned in 1997. The Board will discuss the conflict and whether any action is necessary at its upcoming board meeting.

Stacy Bromberg, Tim Grossman and Dan Lauby already qualified for World Cup XIII. The balance of the teamótwo men and one womanówill be determined by the best ADO tournament point finishes between July 1, 2000 and June 30, 2001. Leading candidates as of the Winter 2001 Double Eagle were Luis Martinez, Roger Carter and Carolyn Mars. Team members will be announced in mid-July.

The most recent edition of the WDF ranking table includes the following Americans: Roger Carter, tied for No. 13; Luis Martinez, No. 16; Paul Lim, tied for No. 18; Stacy Bromberg, No. 6; Carolyn Mars, tied for No. 9; and Lori Verrier, tied for No. 16.

Anniversary Celebrations Heat Up

Blueberry Hill will be the first official "road show" 25th anniversary celebration at the end of next month. But the ADO is taking orders for shirts, pins and commemorative souvenir programs to mark this event. All items will be available at Blueberry Hill and other road show tournaments, or by mail order by contacting a board member and providing a credit card number. In addition, the ADO will have special edition dart boards commemorating the anniversary year available by the end of April. These boards will be available on the same basis as are other Nodor/DMI boards included in the ADOís special discount board program. Please specify when ordering if your tournament wants to order the special, limited-edition boards.

Youth, All-Star Deadlines Approach

Local youth and junior all-star playoffs have a deadline before taxes are due! Qualifiers need to take place by April 8, with regionals scheduled form the first weekend in May. East-West All-Star qualifiers have the same deadline as the IRS to make it easy to rememberóApril 15. Those regionals are slated for May 18-20. East-West and Youth finals will this year be held in conjunction with the Cleveland Extravaganza at the end of August. The ADO board is working with the Cleveland Darter Club and the Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau to provide some extra surprises for qualifiers who earn the trip. And, East-West qualifiers who earn a spot in the National Championships will also have a shot at a $10,000 prize for a perfect 501 game! The Extravaganzaóone of the oldest tournaments in the countryóis also an anniversary road show tournament where faces from the past are likely to make an appearance. Donít miss your opportunity to be part of the excitement!
