2001 NATIONAL TEAM NAMED
Youth Playoff Deadline Nears; Savannah Again Crowned for Scholarship Fund Efforts

Anaheim, Calif. Despite delays caused by a computer virus that crashed the ADO office system and late reports from some tournament directors, the American Darts Organization is proud to announce its 2001 National Team based on the 2000 calendar year championship points. ADO men will this year be represented by Ray Carver, Nashua, N.H.; Roger Carter, Doraville, Ga.; John Kuczynski, Wapwallopen, Pa.; Dan Lauby, Terre Haute, Ind.; Paul Lim, San Bernardino, Calif.; and Luis Martinez, Corpus Christi, Texas. Womenís representatives include Stacy Bromberg, Las Vegas, Nev.; Julie Nicoll, Shady Side, Md.; and Lori Verrier, Salem, Ore.
National team members earn a trip to the East-West All-Stars and National 501 Championships, this year slated in conjunction with the Cleveland Extravaganza in late August. The Extravaganza is also the site of one of the ADOís six anniversary tournament parties, where special recognition will be given to longtime member clubs, tournament hosts and players; souvenirs will be available for sale and prizes will be given out.
Kids Can Earn and Learn Through Darts!
ADO members planning to host youth and/or junior all-star qualifiers to decide will compete for a slot in the National Youth finals in August need to make plans now! At the request of members, the deadline for qualifiers was moved to spring--April 8 this year--in a bid to encourage more participation by keeping the playoffs within the traditional school year. Youth qualifiers are for those players under age 18; players ages 18-20 may participate for spots as junior all-stars in the East-West match in Cleveland. Requests for information about youth rules or playoffs should be directed to regional directors or National Youth Manager Linda Stockman (stockman4180@yahoo.com, or 573-474-4034).
Youth finalists earn scholarship money toward their post-high-school education through the Memorial Scholarship Fund. For several years, the Savannah Area Darting Association has been the biggest single contributor to this fund, dedicated to the memory of dart players who have passed away. Last year, Savannah once again earned the Presidentís award for the most contributions. Overall donations to the Scholarship Fund have fallen drastically in the past two years, though the dart community has been besieged by the loss of many participants in that time. The Scholarship Fund is an IRS 501(c)3 charitable fund; donations are tax-deductible and are deposited in a separate account controlled by a separate board of trustees. The funds are never used for general ADO operations. Donations, which are listed quarterly in the Double Eagle, can be sent to the ADO office, designated to the Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Missing Something?
Due to an editing error, the last release contained a subhead for which there was no item! To correct that: the ADO this year will be naming players to compete in three international events--the Masters in December (team will be determined at the Charlotte Open in April); Malaysia for World Cup in October and the first-ever Americas Cup currently scheduled for mid-2002 in the Cayman Islands. Half the World Cup team was determined at the U.S. Team Playoffs last fall: Dan Lauby, Tim Grossman and Stacy Bromberg. The other half of the team will be determined by playersí best 12 tournament point finishes in the calendar year that ends June 30. The Americas Cup team will be determined by this yearís U.S. Team competition in the fall.
