Rules & Schedule

League Rules & Regulations Less Than Three Player Rule
Insufficient Players Rule 1997/98 Schedule

Back to ESDL

CONSTITUTION 1997/98

(League Rules & Regulations)

1. - Darts shall be held on Thursday nights at 8 pm (8:30 pm maximum), unless both teams agree to hold match at a later date. However, if both teams agree to this arrangement, the executive must be notified prior to the originally scheduled dart night in which a maximum time frame will be allotted to hold the rescheduled match.

2. - A fee of $10.00 is charged to each team for each week of play during the regular season. This fee is due on dart night.

3. - Team registration deadline as well as final registration for players is October 2, 1997. A $30.00 team registration fee is due at this time. Until final registration, any player can play on any team and possibly more than one team, if desired. If that player subsequently becomes registered with a team, his/her individual stats will be transferred to the team that he/she is registered with.

4. - Once the players on a team are officially registered, no other player can play on that team, except in the case of the insufficient player rule, unless otherwise ruled on by the league.

5. - A player that is registered on one team cannot play on another team, except in the case of the insufficient player rule, unless otherwise ruled on by the league.

6. - Each team will play 13 games per night with one other team for 1 point per game. Each game shall consist of a double-in, 501, double-out.

7. - Each team will consist of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 7 players.

8. - Only 4 players per team are permitted to play in any one game. No player can be introduced during play of any one game. Teams are required to complete a game with the players that were slated at the first of the game. (A new line-up may be slated for any of the following games.) (See # 9, below.)

9. - At the beginning of each game, the captain shall slate the line-up of his team on the chalkboard (giving team player's initials to indicate shooting order of his team's players). It is at the team's discretion whether to have a designated starter for each game, or rotate play from the previous game.

10. - Each team will be responsible for keeping the stats for their own players. It is strongly recommended that one player per night be responsible for recording stats.

11. - A player's average is determined by recording his/her score for each turn at the board. The only time a score may not be considered for statistical purposes is when the player is doubling-in and receives 49 or less, or if the team has 99 points or less remaining. In these cases it is up to the team whether or not to include these scores on the stats sheet.

12. - No person shall stand within three feet of a player shooting darts.

13. - Unless mutually agreeable between teams, scores must remain in the board until the score is posted on the chalkboard.

14. - To be eligible to participate in playoffs, a player will have to register at least 75 turns at the board during the regular season. To be eligible to receive trophies (with the exception of '180' trophies), a player will have to register at least 150 turns at the board during the regular season.

15. - All dart boards used for league play must be standard height (5'8" from the bullseye to the floor) and have a distance from the face of the board to the toe line of 7' 9 1/4".

16. - No distracting remarks shall be directed from an opposing player to a player who is shooting.

17. - If a dispute arises during a game, and cannot be settled between the teams, the game will then be played under protest, and the final outcome will be ruled on by the league.

18. - The league shall consist of a maximum of twenty (20) teams, with priority given to those teams previously registered that can still field at least three (3) registered players from their previous year's roster.

19. - Team meetings, if necessary, shall be held given due notice of date, time and place. Each team will have at least one member of their team present at any given meeting. Those teams in violation without due cause and proper notice to the league executive, will be subject to an absentee fine of $5.00.

20. - VIDEO LOTTO - No player shall play the Video Lotto machines while slated to play darts (see # 9). Violation of this rule will result in the violator's team forfeiture of that game.

21. - PRACTICING BETWEEN TURNS - No player shall warm-up or practice on another board while his/her name is slated for play.

22. - No avoid overcrowding near the dart boards, no tables shall be permitting between the bar stands during play.

INSUFFICIENT PLAYER'S RULE

DEFINITIONS:

'Short Team': Any team that shows up and begins play with only three players.

Penalization: The 'short team' is required to use a "Dummy 26" score to replace the absentee player. Individual player stats are not penalized for 'short teams'.

Dummy 26: The 'short team' plays with an imaginary player which automatically scores 26 points when its turn comes.

PROCEDURE:

Dummy 26 is NOT counted when doubling-in or doubling-out. The 'short team misses a turn. (In other words, the opposing team will get two turns in a row.)

Dummy 26 is NOT counted when the 'short team' reaches 100 points or less remaining to finish the game. The dummy will not count, a turn is missed, and the opposing team will shoot. The short team will remain at their previous score (100 or less) until one of their players shoots and no dummy 26 will be recorded for the remainder of the game.

example 1: Dummy is due up when the 'short team' has 101 left. The dummy will count and the 'short team's' score will be reduced to 75.

example 2: Dummy is due up when the 'short team' has 100 left. The dummy will not count, a turn is missed, and the opposing team will shoot. The 'short team' will remain at 100 until one of their players shoots and no dummy 26 will be recorded for the remainder of the game.

NOTE: If a team starts with 3 players and subsequently a fourth player shows up, the dummy 26 is removed and he\she is permitted to play. If a team consistently fails to field at least 3 players, that team will be expelled from the league, unless extenuating circumstances exist.

FIELDING A TEAM WITH ONLY TWO

REGISTERED PLAYERS

In a case where only two registered players from a team show up, it is still possible for the two teams to play. The team that is 2 players short will automatically lose the first three games that they finish, but the stats will be recorded for all registered players, provided the team can obtain 2 other players, registered or not, to play for them. If only one other player can be obtained, the 'DUMMY 26' can be used. In either case, stats will be recorded for all registered players.

If less than two players show up on a team, no stats shall be recorded, and 13 games will be awarded to the opposing team.
