Being located in the small town of Blacksburg in Southwest Virginia, nestled high in the Appalachian Mountains, gave the founder's of B.A.D. (Blacksburg Area Darters) several challenges. The town itself boasts a population of only 14,000, however, Virginia Tech University is located within its borders. Virginia Tech has approxiamated 25,000 students. It was decided very early on that any league formed in such a small town, needed to be accessible to the students as well. It is for this reason that we play three seasons per year, each season corresponding to the breaks and exam schedules of the university. This atmosphere also offered the challenge of setting up the league. With many of the people/throwers leaving the area after only four years, instable teams, or teams with ever-changing rosters are common.
In that spirit, the Town League was designed to be a league that was competitive, but primarily fun and instructional. Trophies are given to the MVP of each team, and all of the money collected from team dues are used to host a large end-of-the-season (all you can eat/drink) party. We have only one level of competition (no divisions), because with an ever-changing cast of throwers and teams, it would be nearly impossible to gauge their relative strengths season-to-season.
Because the B.A.D. was formed outside of bar/restaurant sponsorship, the Town League plays at all the places in town that have dart lanes. Schedules are set up so we that play more matches where there are more boards. Once the dues are collected, any interested dart establishment, is offered a chance to bid for the season final/party, the winning bid is decided on by the officers. All the darts thrown in Blacksburg currently are steel tip.
Teams are made of a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of eight (8) players. Team dues are $50.00 per season, which usually runs10-15 weeks, depending on the school calendar. Matches are played each Wednesday night starting at 7:30pm sharp, and running till around 10-11pm. Each match is worth a total of 25 pts:
- Singles: 501 (3 games)
- Singles: 501 (3 games)
- Singles: Cricket (3 games)
- Singles: Cricket (3 games)
- Doubles: 501 (3 games)
- Doubles: 501 (3 games)
- Doubles: Cricket (3 games)
- Doubles: Cricket (3 games)
- Triples: 401 DI/DO (1 game)
For a total of 25 games, each being worth one point. Players may only participate in one singles match, one 501 doubles, one Cricket doubles, and the Triples tie-breaker on any night. The four teams with
the best overall winning percentage at the end of the season, play in the playoffs, the final two teams meeting for the league title on the final night (at the party).
MVP (Most Valuable Player) POINTS
One player on each team is given a MVP trophy at the league final. The MVP trophies are awarded based on MVP points which are earned by hitting marks. The MVP points are as follows:

- 8 mark or 152-170pts = 4 MVP pts.
