Although the $100,000 Royal Hawaiian dart tournaments are a special thing of memory from the early 1980s, out the ashes arose an international social club that comprised of people interested in darts. Originally formed from participants in the 1983 Royal Hawaiian Open, the group now makes contributions of time and money to a variety of charities, most notably the Special Olympics.
The RHADT meets once a year at the North American Open Dart Tournament in Las Vegas. They have been hosting a Luau dinner on the Saturday evening of the tournament, but in 1996 they hosted instead a Breakfast on Sunday morning. New members are introduced at this annual event.
The RHADT has approximately 120 members, from every continent except Africa and Asia. Each member buys their own shirts with the RHADT logo. Although a silkscreen or transfer logo is sometimes used, those styles are for minor days of a tournament. The flambouyant official embroidered logo shirt is worn on the Finals Day of of the NAODT and at charity events. The RHADT is affiliated with the AMERICAN DARTS ORGANIZATION.
For the past 12 years, the RHADT has held a charity dart tournament at Clancy's Irish Pub in Covina, CA with a portion of the proceeds going to the Special Olympics and has assisted the Billy Barty Foundation For Little People. Other charities also are donated thru smaller events like dart tournaments in different countries. Events are held in England which include celebrities involved in a dart tournament which donated funds to both British and American charities.
According to Paulette Joy, the club formed at the 1983 Royal Hawaiian Open between 10-15 competitors who started talking and a couple more joined in and they formed the Royal Hawaiian All Star Drinking Team that eventualy became the Royal Hawaiian All Star Darting Team.
The fiscal year is July 1 thru June 30th. New prospective members must submit a letter to the organization acompanied by a letter from their sponsor. (All new members must be sponsored by a present member.) These letters must be received by May 1st.
