Leslie A. Murphy of Indianapolis, Indiana has been named Executive Director of the National Dart Association. She has succeeded Mike Smythe as the association's chief executive.
Leslie Murphy has had a distinguished career in association management, having earned the "CAE" Certification from the American Society of Associaton Executives, the hallmark of professionalism and accomplishment in the association management profession. After graduating with honors from Indiana University, Leslie held leadership positions in fraternal society headquarters, honor society organizations, served as Executive Director of the Greater Cleveland Dental Society in Cleveland, Ohio, a professional organization representing over 1200 member dentists; and most recently was Administer of Key Clubs International, a youth program of Kiwanis International with over 180,000 members world-wide. She has had extensive experience and success in coordinating of continuing education programs, conference and convention management, board orientation and training, long-range planning, and financial management. As NDA Executive Director, Leslie is responsible for the daily successful operations of the association at its headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The National Dart Association was formed in 1986 by the AMOA (Amusement and Music Operators Association) and dart equipment manufacturers to promote professionally-run electronic (soft-tip) dart leagues and tournament play throughout the United States and internationally through a variety of member / operator-driven programs. The NDA has grown substantially over the past decade to boast a membership of 400 companies and over 60,000 NDA-sanctioned electronic dart players.
Among NDA's many activities are player sanctioning, standardization of rules and regulations, and sponsorship of two annual international tournaments; one in the spring for dart teams, and a second one in the fall for singles and doubles players. In addition to AMOA, the major NDA sponsors are Arachnid, Inc. of Rockford, Il; Merit Industries of Bensalem, Pa; and Valley Recreation Products of Bay City, Michigan.
