ADO STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF WDF PRESIDENT PETER MCMENAMIN

Anaheim, Calif. It was with great sadness that the American Darts Organization learned of the untimely passing of longtime World Darts Federation president Peter McMenamin. The news comes as a double blow to our friends in the Darts Federation of Australia, for which Peter also was president for many years, and our hearts go out to those fellow darters as well as to his family and numerous close friends .

Some darters in the U.S. knew Peter for more than 20 years; some of you knew him casually; some only by name and some not at all. But you can be assured that by his tireless actions behind the scenes on behalf of the sport of darts, Peter was a friend to us all and his loss is a massive blow to the international darts community.

Peter didn't just love darts, he lived it. It's unlikely he ever met a dart player he didn't like. And he could be as passionate about darts in Mongolia, South Africa or the U.S.A. as he could be about his own Australia. Most of you will never know the ways in which he helped the ADO and others in their work for the sport, because he didn't expect to take credit for what was accomplished.

He was enthusiastic about the new international event, the Americas Cup, which will launch next year. And he worked endlessly with the WDF executive toward the goal of getting darts accepted in the Olympics.

Like all human beings, Peter had faults (his inability to comprehend time zones one of them!), but in the end he was one of the best ambassadors for the sport you could hope to find anywhere. His ability to deal with people of every culture, his curiosity about how things worked in far-flung places, his humor and his ability to get people of very different viewpoints to find consensus made him invaluable to the cause.

The shoes he leaves behind are big ones to fill, and he will be sorely missed.
